Explosion bonding process

A solid-state bond formed in microseconds

Controlled detonation accelerates the cladding plate into the base plate at an oblique angle. Surface jetting removes oxides while extreme impact pressure creates a continuous metallurgical interface with limited heat input.

  1. Material review & surface preparationGrade traceability, flatness and mating surfaces are checked before assembly.
  2. Assembly & parameter calculationStand-off distance, charge loading and detonation path are defined for the metal pair.
  3. Bonding & heat treatmentThe bonded plate is stress-relieved when required by material and project specification.
  4. Leveling, cutting & inspectionFinished material is examined by ultrasonic test and mechanical sampling.
